Grilled Peaches with Cinnamon

Yesterday, we went on an excursion – for blueberries, blackberries and strawberries.  As a family, we had not gone blueberry picking since we were little.  I recall the experience as treacherously hot and back breaking work.  Dismissing this momentary horror, I decided to give it another try. We drove about 45 minutes out from the skyscrapers and industrial noise of the city and into the wild, green, and lush nature that breathes serenity.  One look around and I was glad I came.  The realization always amazes me when I leave my busy, little urban world that there is another world entirely the opposite. A place that is quiet and peaceful. A rarity in the midst of Houston, Texas.

On the drive, we spotted a farmers market off the side of the road. We saw a big sign that read, “PEACHES” and of course, I yelled “PULL OVER!” After stocking up on these little fuzzy balls of happiness, we headed out to the berry farms. In the end, we had 7 pounds of blueberries, 6 pounds of blackberries, 1 carton of farm fresh eggs, and a dozen of – my favorite – Fredericksburg peaches. It is safe to say that we stocked up for summer very, very well.

Just so we are clear, the PERFECT way to start off your summer is, and will always be, with fresh, juicy, grilled Texas peaches. Or any fruit, for that matter.  Although, I am biased towards Fredericksburg peaches because, without fail, they are ALWAYS on point and deliciously sweet. I ate grilled peaches for the first time a few years ago, provided by my Aunt, and let me tell you – the memory of these things stuck with me! That should tell you something.

Ingredients

  • Ripe peaches (as many as you want)
  • Cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare grill to high heat
  2. Meanwhile, cut peaches in halves, remove the pit, and lightly bathe the halves with olive oil.
  3. Sprinkle cinnamon over the exposed half (again, as much as you want here)
  4. Place on the heated grill, cinnamon side down, and let cook until the grill lines form on the peaches (about 10 minutes)
  5. Remove and serve.

Notes: can be stored in the fridge and still taste amazing cold.

I am excited to keep experimenting with grilling fruits. Next will be pineapple! Stay tuned 😉
