Yogurt is tough. There is usually an abnormally high sugar content that, frankly, goes unnoticed by most of us. Before Green Valley Organics, I had not had yogurt in years. It used to serve as a good probiotic for me because I am pretty bad at keeping up with taking pills. Green Valley is awesome because there is only 8g of sugar (in the plain flavor), and 8g of protein. Of course, it is also dairy free and tastes pretty damn good with the right things mixed in. Now, if you don’t care for sugar content, I suggest getting the vanilla or strawberry flavors of this brand without adding much on top. Know that I would not suggest eating yogurt first thing in the morning, but occasionally it is okay.
When you sleep, your body burns calories. As a result, it becomes severely dehydrated. Naturally, the thing you should have in the morning is a big glass of water to replenish the water you lost from sweating in your sleep (gross, I know). Next, you need to restock your healthy fats and protein tanks. This is why I suggest eating a couple eggs with spinach and half an avocado to rebalance your body. It oh so desperately needs these foods – not the cereals, waffles, or pancakes, which only serve to slow us down later in the day.
Dairy free yogurt is good for a mid morning snack, I would say. If you’re going to eat something a little sweeter, it’s best to eat it earlier in the day. I love snacking.. maybe a little too much.. but our body needs to snack at least 2 times a day in between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner. I always tell my clients, if you’re hungry, eat. Obviously, don’t go for those bag of Cheetos in the pantry (in fact throw those out and never buy them again), but at least try to go for the “good” calorie snacks like bell peppers and hummus because they will actually fill you up.
Ingredients
- 1 cup of Green Valley Organic Plain Yogurt
- 2 TBSP Udi’s Gluten Free Granola
- 1 TBSP Justin’s Almond Butter
- 1/2 of a banana
All of these can be found in your nearest Whole Foods. I really love this granola because it can be used for cereal, too and almond butter is healthier to use over peanut butter. Whatever toppings you enjoy, (maybe berries?) simply throw everything in a bowl and dig in! Easiest snack ever. Hope you’re having a great day!
