3 Ingredient DIY Deodorant

There are many surprising hazards to using generic deodorant found in stores. The ingredients and chemicals they put into our health products these days are absolutely baffling. For instance, aluminum has been found in antiperspirants to make you stop sweating completely. That just doesn’t sound human.

*HEALTH TIP*

When your body becomes heated, our pores naturally expand, allowing whatever is on our skin to be absorbed. In other words, your deodorant will seep into your skin and blood stream, which is now being linked to health issues like:

  1. Breast cancer
  2. Seizures
  3. Alzheimer’s Disease
  4. Bone Formation Disorder
  5. Kidney problems

Besides aluminum, toxic ingredients like parabens, propylene glycol, phthalates, and triclosan lurk in our antiperspirant. Look, my rule has always been, “If you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it.” Same thing goes with my health products. Why would I put anything on my skin that I can’t even say? It makes no sense.

For starters, this homemade deodorant smells really good and does the job perfectly. I have used essential oils like lavender and eucalyptus, which are very calming.  If you want an odorless mix, simply withhold the essential oils.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. In a microwaveable bowl, mix together the the coconut oil, baking soda, and arrowroot powder and heat it all up for about 8 seconds, allowing the coconut oil to melt.
  2. Stir into a pasty texture that is dry enough to dab on your skin. Add more arrowroot powder until you get your desired texture. You might have to experiment a little here.
  3. Add 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil and mix. (Lavender or Eucalyptus above)
  4. Pour into a mason jar with a lid, or any other jar, and simply store in your bathroom.

Note: If you’ve melted it too much, that is okay. It will most likely solidify when it settles back to room temperature. To use, simply take your finger and scoop out the mixture and rub into your armpits.

I have been using this for a couple years now and have not had any irritation or problems. One batch will last me 6-8 months. How much money did we just save? Better yet, I KNOW what I am putting on/in my body every day. The health of my body is way more important to me than the width of my wallet. I hope you feel the same.

Thanks for reading! Let me know if you make this and have any questions!

  1. Ok so let me just say that I agree with this post 100%. It’s crazy how many problems conventional deodorant can cause. It’s just not worth it!! I have been using Thai Crystal deodorant for several years now and absolutely love it and recommend it. It is made with salt minerals basically. I never knew you could make your own deodorant. I actually have all of these ingredients on hand…i totally want to try it now! Do you put it on right after the shower?
